This trip is ideal for those that want to know more about backpacking.
This is an educational trip on how to have a safe and fun backpacking experience. On this trip we will cover everything from (A-Z) that you need to know about backpacking and backpacking equipment. Some of the areas covered are:
- How to plan a trip
- What's the best way to get a camping permit?
- How to get the best equipment at an affordable price
- What to look for when buying a sleeping bag, tent, backpack and cook stove.
- How to plan and prepare a meal
- Safety considerations
We will be camping at primitive backcountry campsites In Beavers Bend State Park & Resort one of Oklahoma's most scenic parks located in the Kiamichi Mountains of Southeast Oklahoma. This trip is for those that want to know more about backpacking. We have also included both Kayaking and Canoeing on this trip.
We will spend the first two days backpacking; learning how to pack and adjust your backpack, find good camping sites, set up tents, cook in the outdoors over light-compact stoves and filter water for drinking. The next two days we will both kayak and canoe 18 miles of the scenic Mountain Fork River. You will first learn to kayak then test your abilities as we kayak a very challenging part of the Mountain Fork River. We will then switch to canoes for the rest of the trip, spending one more night camping on the rivers edge.
Trip package includes:
- Experienced Guides
- All fees including cost of kayak & canoe
- All food needed and camping gear. (Sleeping bag, tents, backpack, and cook stove)
Price $ 559
Two Day Wilderness Adventure Sampler
For those whose time is more limited we also have a Two Day Wilderness Adventure Sampler. This includes one day backpacking with overnight wilderness camping and one full day of kayaking and canoeing. We will cover the basics of backpacking but because of the limited time, not to the depths as the 4 day trip.
